The Soil Speaks—Are We Listening? | Farmland Friday

I’m not here to sugarcoat it.
Our food is under attack—and it’s not just the pesticides anymore.

We’re talking pharmaceuticals flushed into the water supply, heavy metals dumped into the soil, microplastics raining down from the sky, and PFAS—those “forever chemicals”—creeping into everything from irrigation systems to compost piles. This isn’t farming. It’s toxic trespassing.

The Illusion of Safety

They’ll tell you it’s “trace amounts.” They’ll say it’s “within regulatory limits.” But I say: if it doesn’t belong in the human body, it doesn’t belong in the soil that feeds us. Period.

These contaminants don’t just sit quietly in the dirt. They bioaccumulate. They leach. They infiltrate the roots, the leaves, the fruits—and eventually, our cells. And the worst part? Most people don’t even know it’s happening.

The Silent Saboteurs

  • Pharmaceuticals: Antibiotics, antidepressants, and hormone disruptors are showing up in reclaimed water used for irrigation. That means your lettuce might be laced with Prozac.
  • Heavy Metals: Arsenic, lead, and cadmium are still found in fertilizers and industrial runoff. These metals don’t break down—they build up.
  • Microplastics: Found in compost, mulch, and even organic fertilizers. They’re tiny, but they’re mighty disruptors of gut health and hormone balance.
  • PFAS: These “forever chemicals” are in nonstick cookware, waterproof fabrics, and firefighting foam. They resist degradation and are now contaminating farmland through biosolids and water systems.

This Is Not Agriculture. This Is Assault.

We’re being poisoned slowly, systematically, and silently. And it’s not just about personal health—it’s about sovereignty. If we lose control of our food, we lose control of our future.

What I Stand For

I stand for clean soil, clean water, and clean food. I stand for farmers who refuse to compromise. I stand for families who want to nourish their children without fear. And I stand against every system that allows these toxins to infiltrate our food chain.

What You Can Do

  • Know your farmer. Ask how they irrigate, fertilize, and protect their crops.
  • Say no to biosolids. These are often marketed as “eco-friendly” but are loaded with contaminants.
  • Support regenerative agriculture. It’s not just a buzzword—it’s a lifeline.
  • Filter your water. If it’s going into your garden, it better be clean.
  • Speak up. Share this message. Educate your community. Demand transparency.

We don’t need more chemicals. We need more courage. Let’s take our food back—one field, one fork, one fearless voice at a time.

With love and truth,
—Donna 💚
