Why is “Safe Food” Making Us Sick? | Why Wednesday

The truth is a punch to the gut, but it’s a necessary one. We are not just getting sicker; we are being systematically impoverished of our health. The enemy is not some distant disease; it is the deliberate, profit-driven alliance between Big Food and Big Pharma—what I call the Sickness Economy.

This is the grim reality they don’t want you to examine too closely on your grocery trip: The same corporations that pack your pantry with hyper-palatable, nutrient-dead filler are financially tied to the drug giants who stand ready to “treat” the chronic diseases those foods guaranteed. It’s a beautifully simple, monstrously effective business model: Profit from the poison, then profit from the cure.

The Metabolic Massacre: Uncovering the Weapon

Right now, our nation is drowning in a tide of chronic disease. We are witnessing a metabolic massacre, and the statistics are screaming. Studies now confirm that ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are the driving force behind the obesity epidemic and a major cause of chronic conditions¹ . A terrifying 60% of calories consumed by U.S. adults, and over 60% for our children, comes from these laboratory concoctions.

Let that sink in. The majority of what we eat isn’t food—it’s a carefully engineered chemical cocktail designed for addiction, not nutrition.

  • They engineer these UPFs with cheap, hyper-palatable ingredients—excessive sugar, salt, and industrial fats—making you consume more calories than your body can register.
  • They load them with chemical additives and emulsifiers that scientists say damage your gut microbiome, creating chronic inflammation—the root of almost every modern disease, from heart disease to depression.
  • The tragic result? High UPF consumption is linked to up to a 66% higher risk of death from heart disease².

This is not an accident of industry; it is a feature of the Sickness Economy. They feed us poison, then offer us the patented, high-cost pharmaceutical antidote. Just look at the exploding market for weight-loss drugs, now projected to hit a staggering $150 billion by 2035³. The solution to the chronic illness caused by cheap food is now a billion-dollar drug habit. The cycle is complete, and you are the product.

Our Sovereignty is Under Attack

The attack doesn’t stop at the dinner plate. The fight for Bodily Autonomy is the fight for your right to say NO to the system that profits from your compliance and sickness.

We are seeing bold, coordinated efforts to further consolidate control over our most fundamental health decisions. From legislative moves that strip the safety net, leaving 10 million more Americans uninsured and desperate, to policy recommendations that seek to silence independent public health agencies and restrict data collection. The goal is clear: Silence the independent science and eliminate dissent, leaving you reliant on a single, controlled narrative.

This is an assault on our right to health sovereignty—the right to control what goes into our bodies and the right to informed consent free from coercion.

Reclaim Your Plate. Reclaim Your Power.

You are not helpless in this rigged game. They want you to feel confused, overwhelmed, and compliant. We say, absolutely not. The most powerful act of resistance you can wage against the Sickness Economy starts at home, in your kitchen.

The Resistance: Your Action Step 👊

Commit to the “Two Ingredient Rule” at the grocery store.

For one week, I challenge you to scrutinize every item you place in your cart. If a packaged product has more than two ingredients you can’t readily identify, or that you wouldn’t find in a traditional, whole food kitchen (e.g., xanthan gum, high-fructose corn syrup, soy lecithin), put it back. Focus entirely on whole, unprocessed foods: fresh meat, eggs, produce, and simple dairy. This single, aggressive act starves Big Food’s bottom line and forces you to re-engage with the real ingredients that heal.

You hold the ultimate veto power over the Sickness Economy. Stop outsourcing your health. Take back your plate, take back your power, and show them that your well-being is not for sale.

Next week, we turn our investigative spotlight on another insidious contaminant: Why Are We Still Using Fluoride? and the shocking truth about fluoride exposure and neurological risks.

With love and truth,
